YMCA Open Doors

YMCA helps people experiencing disadvantage by subsidising the costs of YMCA programs and services.

YMCA offers a great range of programs and services for people of all ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. However, unfortunately not all people can afford to participate. It is part of our mission to provide equal access to health and wellness services to all members of the community, and help everyone lead healthier and happier lives.

To provide support to those most in need, we work closely with community agencies to help identify and refer people who would benefit from our assistance.

See the benefits

As well as the obvious health benefits of leading physically active lives, there are also emotional and social benefits which are often harder to measure. Yet we know that providing the opportunity for people to connect with their community helps reduce isolation, increase confidence and foster greater independence.

By supporting the Y, you are helping to provide access to opportunities for all people to grow in body, mind and spirit.

Help people like Paul

At 26, Paul is challenged by Autism and intellectual disabilities. His grandmother provides care and opportunities, however is financially limited and sometimes can’t keep up with his energetic nature.

Paul Solly 1

Paul was offered assistance through YMCA Open Doors, with a one on one swimming teacher, Travis. During their weekly lessons, Paul learns basic swimming strokes, floating, water awareness and some supervised playtime at the end.

Travis said "Paul is a great guy with so much energy. Sometimes he gets a bit too excited but since we have started our lessons he is learning not only correct swimming techniques but also social behaviour in the water. I really enjoy our lessons and Paul loves to show his Nanna what he has learnt when we have finished. She is so proud of him and so are we."
