Updated child supervision policy
UPDATED CHILD SUPERVISION POLICY – EFFECTIVE 2nd SEPTEMBER 2019
The recent updates to the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations (GSPO) places a strong emphasis on supervisory responsibilities of parents and guardians of children under the age of 10.
The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre is proudly at the forefront of the Aquatic and Leisure industry and make it a priority to adopt best practice methods of operation.
This new policy is in place to improve the safety of our members and patrons. This change will be implemented at no additional cost to our community. We simply ask that you collect the appropriately coloured wrist band at Front Desk.
As of September 2nd, 2019 SAALC, will be implementing the following improvements to our operational procedures:
CHILDREN UNDER 5
RATIO: Maximum of 2 children under the age of 5 per adult (babies in prams included).
At all times, children under the age of 5 must wear a pink wrist band and be within arm’s reach of a parent or responsible person who is over the age of 16.
CHILDREN UNDER 10 (5 - 9 years)
RATIO: Maximum of 4 children under the age of 10 per adult.
At all times, children under the age of 10 must wear a yellow wrist band and must be accompanied and actively supervised by a parent or responsible person who is over the age of 16.
All paper wristbands are issued FREE of charge from the Front Desk.
We appreciate your co-operation with these new regulations.
- These ratios apply to all children before and after attending swimming lessons.
- For children 10 years or older, parents must use their knowledge of the child’s swimming ability to determine the level of supervision required.
- If a staff member is concerned for the safety of an unsupervised child, they have authority to remove the child from the water.
