Lifesaving World Championships Adelaide 2018
The SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre is privileged to host the Lifesaving World Championships Adelaide 2018 from November 16th to December 2nd. This event will see athletes from 44 nations battle it out for the title of World Champion in 500 competitions across the beach, ocean and pool.
Approximately 6,000 support staff and volunteers will move with the teams of athletes between Glenelg Beach and SAALC. WORLDS 2018 will bring approximately $30 million of economic benefit to the state of South Australia making it one of the largest sporting events held at SAALC in 2018.
The Lifesaving World Championships are held every two years, in different countries, alternating between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Adelaide is the only city to have secured this amazing event twice since the championships began.
From youth through to masters we invite all to come and spend the day at the beach or the pool to watch our local lifesaving heroes as they look to bring home a gold medal.
Exciting pool events to look out for:
- Obstacle Swim
- Obstacle Relay
- Line Throw
- Manikin Tow with Fins
- Manikin Carry
Pool rescue competition is lots of fun to watch as it displays the speed, power and rescue skills of your local SAALC pool lifeguard.
